How
Does the Mosquito Motel Work?
The Mosquito Motel contains
a titanium oxide coated panel and a fluorescent globe
that produces ultraviolet light and heat.

Carbon dioxide is produced when the ultraviolet light
from the globe (and in the case of daytime use, the sun)
strike the titanium oxide coated panel. This causes a
photocatalytic reaction.
The carbon dioxide (which humans exhale) is completely
harmless, but irresistible to mosquitoes, they will follow
the scent.
The carbon dioxide in tandem with the ultraviolet light
and heat emitted by the fluorescent globe entice mosquitoes
to enter "check in" the motel through the capture
windows at the top of the Mosquito Motel.
Once the Mosquitoes are "checked in" they are
drawn to the capture net at the bottom of the Mosquito
Motel by a small fan where they remain, unable to fly
upwards through the fan, and eventually dehydrate and
die.
