Air Purifiers America Conducts Ionic Breeze
Quadra Air Purifier Testing
Sharper Image's Ionic
Breeze® Quadra™ Silent Air Purifier
has made quite a entrance into the air purifier
market. After much advertising and marketing,
this unit has not performed up to Sharper Image's
claims.
Consumer Magazine just published their latest
research on the Ionic Breeze and states "The
Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Professional with OzoneGuard
does little to clean the air. If you own one,

. The American Lung Association (ALA)(18) and
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)(19)
all gave explicit warnings against ozone-generating
devices. The Consumer Reports' authors conclude,
after performing tests, that they "wouldn't
recommend an ozone generator even as a last resort."
and "NOT RECOMMENDED These were poor at cleaning,
and some exceeded the UL ozone standard".
At Air Purifiers America, we decided to test a
new Ionic Breeze against our criteria on particle
removal effectiveness. We tested models from 6
manufacturers at our offices with a high-tech
particle counter to measured the ability to remove
particles from the air which are 0.3 microns and
larger. This represents particle sizes for pollen,
mold spores, pet dander and most of the dust in
a home environment.
Sharper Image Test Results - The Sharper Image
air purifier was the worst performing unit we
tested, as it only removed 30% of the particles
at the unit and ONLY 5% in the room - we were
generous with the 5%. We even tested this unit
beyond our standard 20 minute duration and extended
it for an entire day and the unit still didn't
remove any significant particles from the room.
We did not see a layer of dust on the electrostatic
